Out of control last night. It probably went around the stadium 15 times total.


Simply the Best:�

Remember the Tina Turner song- Simply the Best. I’m sick of
it. That’s the victory lap song for the winners as they start off with
a hoard of photographers surrounding them and the flag of their country
wrapped around them.



Interesting Choices:

My selections of pizza slice types at the meet yesterday: Salami or Ham or Tuna.



How to Make a Meet Fun:

If only U.S. Nationals were this fun. The meet is a constant joy, because of the following:

1) Music played between events, even with field events going on, except during field event finals.

2)
Announcers constantly keep you updated on the field events, call your
attention to who is up in the event, and where they stand.

3) Lap splits are given by announcers.

4) Video screens of the action.

5) People stand up and cheer.



The Meet:

Weather
was really windy. Cross wind for PV, tail for the triple and head wind
down the homestretch. A tremendous day for the USA. Six total medals in
seven events. Three golds and a sweep of one event.




The Events:

Pole Vault:
A cross wind the whole competition, which put a damper on big jumps.
Some guy from the Netherlands had the bar bounce 6 inches off the
standard and land right back on it to keep himself in it. He eventually
beat Brad Walker of the U.S.


Triple Jump: Walter Davis did it.
Took the lead on his first jump, slipped to third, but then in round
three went 17.57, did a little dance and victory was his. He jumped in
round 4, paced up and down the track in rounds 5 as he passed and then
in round 6 when the victory was his. Long jump preliminaries are today
for him.



Women’s 100H: Jamaicans were out early and had the pressue on
the Americans. Hayes and Perry rallied and were closing, when Hayes
fell at hurdle 10. Inside Perry pulled ahead.



Men’s 200m Final: U.S. had
lanes 3-4-5-6. Tyson Gay got out hard and had the lead at 90 meters.
Gaitlin put the hammer down and ran away with the race, with Spearmon,
Capel, and Gay finishing behind. First ever 1-4 sweep by a country.



Women’s Discus Final: Franza Dietrich won. This is her eighth world champs appearance. She threw far, that’s all I know on that.



5k
prelims, 400h semis, women’s 200 semis: A lot of fast people in the 5k,
none from the U.S. advanced. The World Record holder from Russia looks
unbeatable in the 400h. Felix looked good it will be a good match up
with Campbell, one I believe Felix will win.
