I was saying hello to one of my former high school athletes the other day (a high school senior) and asked how they were progressing and they were doing just that; progressing. I knew she would be. Not because she has overwhelming talent, perfect facilities, great training plans, any therapy, or great coaching, but because she wanted it. Most athletes, don't want it enough plain and simple.
Some people bring it for practice (or parts), some show up big for meets, some take care in recovery, some handle life outside of sport, few want it enough to be wholly consistent for long enough to get where they want to be. Great achievements and progressions take time and big accomplishments assemble from due diligence to lots of well done parts. The path isn't always straight, but those who can balance things and want it enough to take care and be compliant have a much better chance to get where they're going.
