Welcome Pain
I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'
Muhammad Ali
Athletes and coaches have known the truth about hard work and pain for a long time. However, with a recent discovery highlighted here (http://www.runnersworld.com/sports-psychology/study-considering-pain-good-makes-it-more-tolerable) adds scientific weight behind the importance of having the right attitude during tough/painful training. I have for a long time told my athletes to welcome soreness and not to shy away from it! Understanding the new discovery about pain it is important to get your kids to accept pain sometimes associated with tough work.
Coaches note: If your athlete has bilateral pain it is less likely to be an injury then unilateral soreness. Bilateral is often DOMS and unilateral needs more attention as it could be the onset of an injury.
