2009 GAIN Apprentorship[read more]

The anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” The GAIN Apprentorship has a simple goal to chain the world of sport performance and rehabilitation by defining the field of athletic development. Last year was the beginning, join us June 18 to 23, 2009 and be pa [...]

Speed of Sevilla[read more]

Imagine that you are at a concert in Sevilla, after a stunning flamenco performance, clapping at a fast uniform pace, much like a heart beat while jogging. Even better, try it out right now, but stop after you reach twelve claps. Then do it again but this time execute the first, third, fifth, eighth, and eleventh claps loudly, and the remaining seven claps softly. Your clapping patte [...]

Is the NSCA still relevant?[read more]

While I was at the USATF Level 2 Coaches Education School 2 weeks ago in Houston, I had several conversations with students about what certifications were important and beneficial. Some heated discussion came up regarding the National Strength & Conditioning Association's CSCS certification and whether it was beneficial and worthwhile. A couple of my fellow instructors were pretty passionately op [...]

Humbling Experience[read more]

After waiting what seemed like a lifetime, I finally had the opportunity to advance my education by attending the USATF Level II Coaching School. I would by lying to you if I didn’t mention that sufficient nervousness preceded entering the weeklong excursion. Although, as time drew closer the opportunity to learn from a group of instructors, whose knowledge and expertise have produced countless [...]

USATF Coaches Ed[read more]

I've been in Houston for the past week at the USATF Level 2 school. The Coaches Education only holds one Level 2 school a year (other than some rare circumstances) and it's almost always held at the same time of the year. This year was a little later due to the Olympic trials going in to July. This is the 9th Level 2 I've attended (first 2 were as student only) and I've enjoyed every one of th [...]

GAIN Apprentorship[read more]

We are just one month away from our first Apprentorship program. It is a very good group, there is still room for one or two more people if you contact my right away. We will not have a program in December; I am only going to do one per year each June. Because of the amount of follow-up necessary with each group for the following year to do two per year would be very difficult. [...]

HPC is putting together a world class clinic at the Track & Field Olympic Trials in Eugene on July 1, 2008. We are still in the process of finalizing the details but Dan Pfaff, Boo Schexnayder, and Larry Judge have already agreed to speak. See details here and pre-register today. [...]

Wisconsin Track Coaches Association[read more]

The clinic this past Friday and Saturday was one of the best have spoken at in years. It was so uplifting to see a group of coaches so eager to learn and share. They asked great questions. I think the parents and children of Wisconsin are very lucky to have the caliber of professionals that I saw and interacted with this past weekend working with their children. I think what struck was the number [...]

Wow[read more]

I sure do respect all of you that live in cold weather. I am in Milwaukee to speak at the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association, it is 11 degrees right now with a whole bunch of snow on the ground. I will never complain again when my wife wants me to rake leaves in 75 degree weather, sure beats shoveling snow. It also explains all those Wisconsin license plates in Sarasota. Seriously I am looking fo [...]
