WSGeneral’s Training Log

Alright, I have been meaning to do this for some time now, but finally decided to do it today--the day before more formal training begins. I'll start with a bit of background. I have been an athlete all my life, as basketball runs in the family, so I grew up playing ball. I decided to try running and I got hooked right away. Some stuff happened after a few years of football, bball, and track, so I decided to just run.

Some stats:
Height: 6'1"
Weight:150
400m: 56 low
800m: 2:06
1600m: 4:36 TT in January before I got hurt
2 mile: 10:25 split
5k: 16:20

Goals:
400-53
800-1:59
1600-4:20
3200-9:40
5k-16:00
Goal Volume: 26-2800 on 50 weeks.

Since seventh grade I'd just go out and run around for 30+ minutes for fun--I think my longest run I did of all time was during the summer between 7th and 8th grade-close to 3 hours. The run was about 20 miles. Last year was the first year I kept volume, and it ended at 2437 miles for the year on 50 weeks of training--3 of which were in the pool, so really 47 weeks.

My peak race is the Southern CA JO Championships. I am going to be independantly schooled, so I don't have anywhere near as many races as guys who race for their schools. I have picked a very limited race schedule so I can be fresh when I hit the track to drop my best races. As it stands I'm running 11 races in a 20 week period.

Bottom line of all of this writing: I WILL BE READY TO WIN COME JUNE.

Again I am very conservative for doctrine so here goes about locomotion. Instead of puking Shirley Sahrmann into the bird beaks I will comment on what I agree with instead of just rehashing a book that anyone can read from Amazon I will get into gait again as my Guy Drut video created more confusion than answers. First the Psoas needs to be reviewed from an engineering, embryology, evolutionary,

Alright, I’ve never done this before but i am going to log my physical and mental training for this coming season. I’ll include my training but also my emotions, moods, results, ups and downs...pretty much everything...I also think video updates will be included as and when i have them available…

For those who don’t know i am a long jumper with a best of 7.54m. I’ve been jumping in a so called training program for around 4 years now, and long jumping for 5 years total.

The reason i chose the name of this log, is simply because when you foul 85% of your jumps and 60% of those are much bigger than your PR, your making it hard for yourself to reach your potenial.

Ok, so here goes...enjoy!

Hi all,

I’m settled down and are ready to commit to a consistent track schedule.

I am by all means a newbie who’s read a lot but doesn’t have much on-track
experience. I was training for strongman a couple of years ago and decided to enter a couple of meets back in 2006 and ran under 12 sec in the 100m on both occasions. I’ve also done powerlifting and olympic weightlifting meets in the past. I want to improve my 100-m time by training more specifically for track (bw is a lot lower now).

I will enter meets in the spring/summer of 2009 (and possibly 60m if I can find something in California). I would appreciate all input regarding planning my training from the experienced users on here.

Some of my recent stats:

height: 5’11’’
weight: 175lb
front sq: 140K
power jerk: 115K
power snatch: 90K
power clean: 110K

The following is my schedule for the next 6 weeks. Any input based on my goals/experience is appreciated!

My given parameters? A four week block of 3 days a week for two hours of organized practice before Late fall/winter break. Yes not ideal as I like to train but this is the given situation. I have astroturf, an indoor track and some grass with a fitness center. Good enough for me as many great performances have

so my performance in the 100m dropped by over half a second. Despite lots of training and days to recover. I have been eating carbs but i am in a caloric deficit hence losing of weight. I have succesfully lost some amount of fat and am now at a lower weight. However performance is shit, i feel slow but don’t know if i’m faster. My question is how long will it take to return to peak performance again. one year maybe?

“This is a difficult question to answer in this format for what folks mean by intensive, extensive and low intensity work varies. I have seen very consistent results from programs that do intensive and extensive work as classically described. I do things that I consider to hit both realms albeit not purely classical in design. For example, we do a lot of 100m “up-backs” in the early training ph

Hey all,

Just wanted to other peoples views and experience to short approach jumps…

What do you put main emphasis on when doing them yourselves, coaching others etc...How much do you care about fouling? jumping far? correct technique etc?

Takeoff Mechanics in the Long Jump

Dwight Philips has really kinda been stuggling since 2005...(stuck at 8.30m,) and i was watching some videos and saw some interesting things…

when he jumped 8.60m i thought he technique was near to perfect, expecially his take off range, from reach to pull back…

when watching his take off in Osaka, it was so so different to a couple of years before…

im a big beleive that the take off leg has to reach and pull back very aggresively and therefore finish very high and far back behind the athletes butt...during the 8.60m pic you can clearly see this...Angles of his take off leg and free leg are totally different, and this is as far back as his take off leg goes on the 8.20m jump in Osaka, which would suggest he didnt use his glutes or hamstrings nearly as much as he did on the 8.60m one…

i think this is the key to a good take off at speed…

thoughts?
