this is kind of a rant.  i run 3 events a meet, and i have 17 meets in 11 weeks.  is it just me or this a lot of races to be running for high schoolers?  i want peoples thoughts on the scheduling of high school seasons.

17 meets is a lot of meets if you are not counting your State meet or a State Qualifying meet if your state has one.  If you are then it is too many because that means you run 18-19 meets, maybe 20 technically if your state meet has prelims the day before finals.

I believe strongly that too many HS track teams run too many meets.  This leaves little time for proper training and the possibility of too many injuries.  It’s crazy to run 3 events at all these meets, if you divide them up a little you’ll get the proper 8-10 races you need before you get to the crunch time in the season.  However, the flip side is that some race days become rest days.  So running 3 events at some meets would count as a quality day.

Wow, I guess I was really boned.  Ran 4 events at every meet…for 18 meets at least.  Actually, that kinda explains why my times never improved after the midway point of the season came.  It was still fun though, cuz half the meets I went to were far away, which was cool.

That’s a ridiculous amount of meets. Hopefully you’re not trying to do any hard training in between the meets.
