What does everyone think is the best distance event?

1500/1600 and 5000 are my favorite distance events, but I refuse to believe the 800 is a “distance” event and it is my favorite of those listed.

800m is a distance event. i rank the 5000m as the best distance event, it requires everything. speed, VO2 max, and a high lactate threshold.

i would say that 800m is both a sprint and endurance, neither one or the other. but for me, even though i race the 800m, i would say that the 5000m is the greatest distance. for me, the most exciting races come from this. Halbergs 1960 olympic gold, viren vs pre, the athens 2004 olympics, so many good races.

On average, I'd say the 800m or mile but in my opinion a truly great 5k can be better than both. At lower levels though the 5k is typically quite boring. If it didn't serve as a nice rest period for my sprinters I'd probably do without the average 5k.
