Well, it's time to hang up my spikes for the last time. I finally had surgery about a month ago on my high hamstring tendinits, a year and a half after the symptoms started. They went in and moved the sciatic nerve, then removed all of the inflamed bursa. Then they tapped on one of the bones near the origin, until a small hole was created. This hole is to allow blood flow into the area. I feel pretty good now, I'm off crutches, and I start rehab in two weeks.
It won't be up and running until December/January, so I decided to retire from competitive track and field. It was a hard decision, but I feel it's the best one available.
I want to thank everyone who commented on my journal, and everyone else who read it. Elitetrack is the best online resource for training advice and tips. I started reading elitetrack my freshmen year of college, and I saw a huge improvement once I started implementing some of the workouts I was suggested. I never really had good coaching, so I didn't know a lot about running. At first, I actually thought that running form meant little for running performance. Elitetrack opened me up to a wealth of training philosiphies, which helped me create my own custom workouts.
I went from a casual track runner my freshmen year, to a dedicated conference champion and near provisional qualifier my sophomore year. I had no doubt in my mind that I would be going to nationals my junior and senior years. But injuries happen, and things change, so I'm making the best of it. Anyway, thanks to the elitetrack community for your advice and support. Good Luck
Peace Out
