Well, jump roping will certainly increase your ability to jump rope faster, but jump roping along will not increase sprint speed.  There are too many other factors that are involved in fast running for that to be the case.

However, jump roping may benefit sprinting, and I am shooting from the hip here and people correct me if i'm making a bad assumption.  I can see that jump roping would help sprint speed in that when you jump rope, you generally do so with a fixed ankle position and will just allow most of the jumping work to be taken care of by stretch reflex of the foot hitting the ground.  Now I have no data to back this up, but working on stretch reflex of the plantarflexors and achillies may have some benefit to sprinting.  But again, I cannot back this up, just something that I thought of.

What do you guys think?

Yes, it's the good old SSC in jumping rope that benefits sprinting.  It's just like doing ankle hops in place.
