Plantar fasciitis is inflamation of the tendons under the foot. The most effective treatments (almost surefire fixes in fact) are deep tissue massage on the longitudinal arch of the foot, static stretching of the achilles tendon and gastroc, and ice cup massages.

Heel cups can help with plantar fasciitis but in my opionion it isn't the best option because they can alter gait mechanics negatively (if they are too thick).

i was diagnosed with it, personal opinion was that it was a bruised heel.  Anyway, got custom orthodics for my shoes and havent had a problem since.

I agree. Iv'e had Plantar fasciitis, and I thought it would never go away. I receive PT, and heres what they recommeded.

MRI-to rule out heel spur
Achilles stretch-bent knee
Ultra sound
deep tissue massage
Ice massage for pain and inflamation(use styrofoam cup)
night splint to keep foot dorsiflexed (morninging weres most painful)
Cross training-pool, staionary biking
Pick-up items with toes (arch strenghth)
Place towel on floor flat , place weighted item at one end, then bring towel with item toward you until item gets close to yours toes(Arch Strength)
