Unfortunately thats how things are now.  Most places are really limited when it comes to male roster spots and I would say that most coaches are forced to cut athletes that can develop and help a little farther down the road, in order to keep athletes that can score now.

Even though it's not D1, maybe that attittude is part of the reason you were cut.  I'm sure your coach still wanted you to work your a$$ off to be as good as you could be.

I have never heard of a school taking back a scholarship before an athlete's first season.  Did you fail to do the work expected of you in the fall?

According to Chico State's website… I don't think that was the case at all Irish B.  There best TJ was only 12.88 meters and LJ was only 6.7+ meters! (according to there website).  It had to of been something else… like a violation of rules or missing the curfew or as ex400 put it…. didn't do work expected.

I doubt he was on money as a 21 high school long jumper. He said he was recruited which is different.

I checked the results of their championship meet, 8th place was 21'10. And Chico State had no one score in the long jump. Something else is going on here . . . because even with a huge roster, you never know what can happen over the course of a season with injuries and who is going to be healthy.

I think most D1 schools and almost all D2 schools are happy to have walk-ons who have any ability at all, so long as they follow the program and are not a pain in the butt.  So if OP was not on scholarship, hard to figure why he would get the boot unless he somehow brought it on himself.

Maybe they caught him smoking weed…we at elitetrack.com did advise him it wouldn't get him anywhere in track and field…and look what's happened.

PS: look at the spelling of the hyperlinked topic as well…

RE original topic, sorry assman, that situation is tough. Keep training hard and shove the results in their face.

Don't get down on yourself man. Bust your ass and jump unattached. Put up some good marks jumping open and try to make it next year or even the outdoor team.
