Vern is currently is the Director of Gambetta Sports Training Systems. He has been the a conditioning coach for several teams in Major League Soccer as well as the conditioning consultant to the US Men’s World Cup Soccer team. Vern is the former Director of Conditioning for the Chicago White Sox and Director of Athletic Development for the New York Mets. Vern is recognized internationally as an expert in training and conditioning for sport having worked with world class athletes and teams in a wide variety of sports. It seems to me that functional path training would be an outstanding program for young or novice athletes who are in the process of developing their arsenal of movement skills. However, I don’t see much benefit in using this type of training with a mature athlete who has already gravitated toward his or her specialized event area. There could possibly be some benefit during general prep or off season.

Yeah. That tends to be the athletes that Vern has worked with over the past couple years. He’s worked with plenty of pro teams (mostly baseball and soccer) and I’m not sure how he’s handled their training.
