The Wall Street Journal recently published a list of the Top 10 Athletes in the world. I was surprisingly shocked to see that not only did 3 tracksters make the list but the WSJ said that the number one athlete in the world was Roman Sebrle. Joining him was Liu Xiang in 7th and Jeremy Wariner in 8th. I’m not sure I fully agree with their rankings but (I think Sebrle’s claim to the number 1 spot

I agree and think that it is nice to see track guys getting love, but maybe not the ones on there…

Also, I posted almost the exact same thing yesterday under other topics and it didn’t show up on the new posts list…

Great minds think alike.

I give thanks that this list is somewhat logical.  I am surprised any track people are on there.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal…Powell good sprinting speed….oh that is huge!

I take issue with the rankings.
Guys who should have made it:
Kobe Bryant
Tiger Woods

Guys who shouldn’t have made it:
Liu Xang
Alex Rodriguez

They didn’t seem to be very consistent with the judging. Sometimes it was career achievement, sometimes it wasn’t. Sometimes it was pure athleticism, sometimes it was dominance of the sport.

I’ll give you A-Rod as not being good enough, but Liu Xang not??? Come on now, he’s clearly one of the best track athletes ever.  Wariner is not someone I would have listed, but it’s funny 3 track guys made yet only one technically does any field events, Walter Davis and John Godina for being able to do 2 different technical events at a world class level.  However, I think you could put about 6 Decathletes on this list.  Tiger belongs as much as Wariner, but I can see Kobe being 8th or 9th.  If Lebron is #2, it’s because he can pass, shoot, and dribble a basketball, but I cannot see him out throwing Serble and doubt he could out run Serble and they would likely draw on jumping skills.  So I would give the edge to Kilmartin, Pappas, Hardee, Clay, Addy, and a host of other decats over anyone else and maybe even LeBron.

Ya, I thought LeBron was incredibly overrated on this list, although I’m not sure that I would remove him from it entirely.
