People get their “BF %“ skewed by stupid testing methods, including poor use of calipers, Tanita scales, dunk tests that make presumptions about bone density, and more.

TdF guys burn about 600 calories an hour. Let’s be generous and say you burn more than them each hour @ 700 calories/hour (you likely burn much less) and you do it for 2 full hours a day—you get 1400 calories burnt and your BMR is likely in the 2000 calorie area. Not even in the realm of 5000. Don’t lie to yourself.

Nick—you aren’t 4.5%. If I need to post a picture of what a guy who is ACTUALLY 5-5.5% looks like, I will, but it’s really not worth it.

People here need to keep a food journal for a week with exact portion sizes if they want to keep up with the nonsense.

I wondering why his bmr or rmr was so high, I had my rmr tested and it was 1675 if i remembered correctly. what is your bf % davan?

it was with calipers Ill admit they aren’t the greatest for testing but I am a very very lean sprinter. Davan you are so cool.

I am so cool? I’m trying to make sure misinformation like this isn’t put out (this isn’t a matter of exaggeration—you probably take in half that many calories most days). I’m tired of the nonsense of everyone saying they’re 2-5% bodyfat to justify their dietary habits or misrepresenting it. When I talk to people and they tell me all these people are eating 5000 calories and getting leaner than bodybuilders and they try to mimic it, it’s hard to sit by idly when people continue to spread that around.

That’s from about a year ago. Slightly leaner maybe now.

I’d say about 8% or so. Give or take 1%.

Ha, you looked nothing like that when I saw you in 07 at your indoor home meet, but things do change. If that’s you I give you props.

It’s hard to be lean and muscular when you don’t lift upper body weights and are under your high school weight by 10lbs. I wasn’t as lean then, but I was still fairly strong (pc’d like 245-255).

Do I need to post more pics to prove it is in fact me? Multiple forum members to prove it is me (seen me in person in the last year) as well?

I think I weighed 168-169 in that pic. In ‘07 I weighed 165-170 most of the year (gained weight during the season). In ‘06, high school, I weighed 170-172. I weigh 173 as of today.

The best is when the trainers use caliper to measure girls’ bf%.  I have had girls get measured at x% during their preseason physical (calipers).  Then they train and get visibly leaner then get their bf% measured again at their request and it comes out higher because a different trainer took the measurements.  Now everyone wants to get measured by Trainer1 because her measurements are sometimes over 5% lower than measurements from Trainer2.

Hell I’d rather have the trainers make them strip to their underwear and guess bf% vs using calipers lazily.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal…Powell good sprinting speed….oh that is huge!

Why so defensive?

You asked how many calories we would suggest for a 160lb sprinter and said you eat over 5000 calories. I’d recommend less than that and I’d suggest you keep track of your food for a couple weeks to see what you really take in on average (not just one day a week) because your estimations are absurdly high, bordering on comical.

If you really are eating over 5000 calories a day at 160lbs and actually are 4.5% body fat while improving your sprinting, then keep doing what you’re doing because you have everything tuned in perfectly and should be writing some articles for the site about how to do it.

Nick—the guy is your height and weighs under 200lbs in that pic.
