Moving upto 200m, when i’ve ran them in the past, my best results have come from pushing out at about 85% to 150, then going flat out from there. Have experimented with flat out from the start, relaxing at 150m point, then picking up again coming off the bend, and also with flat out all the way

Going out less fast was easily the best method (for me), so if I’m planning that as my race strategy is there any point in me doing accel work, when i’m never going to try and accelerate 100% from blocks?

if you are able to accel faster then your 85% will become faster no?

Yes of course there is, this is a no brainer. If you are going to run 85 percent around the bend thats fine it’s a good race strategy. But think, the faster your acceleration, the faster you get to 85 percent, and your 85 percent will also be faster than it would be without the workouts. Think of it like a long jump, a jumper may not run at the board at 100 percent. Nevertheless they will still work on their speed. Because the faster your 100 percent the faster your 85 percent will be. So you maintain the comfort levels that come with a lower percentage in relation to your max but the speed will still improve.
