A post by Craig last week got me thinking about the diffrent types of 100m runners. Obviously the two basic types would be explosive starters and people who come on at the end, but what about the people who fall in the middle? How would tyou determine who is what when it’s not flat out obvious. I decided to look at 10m splits, and I noticed that the last 30m and the first 30m(Minus RT) varied between 1.3-.9 faster than the first 30m. I decided to make a 5 point scale to rate sprinters, 1 being guys like Kim Collins and 5 being your Christoph Lemaitre’s.
1=.9 or Lower
2=.9-1
3=1-1.1
4=1.1-1.2
5=1.2+
So here are some splits of some guys, to see where they fall.
Ben Johnson ‘87=First 30m:3.67 Last 30m:2.60 Differance:1.07 Category=3
Dwain Chambers ‘99=First 30m:3.67 Last 30m:2.68 Differance=.99 Category=2
Asafa ‘05=First 30m:3.68 Last 30m:2.54 Differance:1.14 Category=4?
Bolt ‘09=First 30m:3.63 Last 30m:2.50 Differance:1.13 Category=4

So, what do you guys think? Do you guys know anyone else to place?
