Hey, yall! Thought I would post up my shit for “reference” :D

1 Where are you?

Norway

2 What is your educational background in the sports sciences, if any?

I dunno what its called [I]spesifically], but I am studying sport science at High School

3 Are you an athlete, coach, or other?

Athlete, yup..

4 What sports do you compete/coach?

Sprints, babe. My coaches change from time to time smile

5. How long have you been training?

Since I was able to walk, hehe. I started with cross country-skiing and soccer. I started training martial arts at 9 and maintaining that while I also did middle- and longdistance running. In the winter I would/will sometimes do some downhill skiing (slalom and such). I have also considered bodybuilding, but I will wait doing that until I am older if I dont become a sprinting track champ (which I will :D )

A sprinter lives and dies with his ego, and with his instincts.

Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter if you're a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, youd better be running.

Illinois

failed to complete BS requirements for Exercise Science and Physiology Dual Majors.  Decided computer market was too lucrative to pass up on in 1998 and changed my mind 5 years later.  7 years later I am re-entering school.

Athlete, Coach, Researcher, and Nut case

I still compete in open meets in distances from 100 to 800.  I decided to give up jumps except for indoor pentathlon if I could ever find one, I run the occasional road, trail races, some euro-style XC stuff.  I also play basketball, soccer, beach volleyball, softball, and sandlot football whenever I get the chance.

I have been training since I was ten years old when I won 200, 400, 800, and 1600 runs in one summer meet.  I ran a 5k a year later by training the only way I then knew how, I ran a mile hard one day and added a quarter mile each day running as hard as I could till I got to 3.5 miles.  This took 3 weeks and went out and ran the 5k in 19:47 at 11 years old.  Taking 3rd place age division 19 and under and 25th overall.  Then I procede to take a slackers lifestyle until I went to the USMC.  There I rededicated myself to running and started turning sub 16’s in 5k and sub 33’s in 10ks and the rest is unknown history.

THought I'd put mine up

Chico, Ca

No formal education in running/physiology/kinesiology.  Just what I pick up on places like this, an occasional medical or science journal, stuff like that.  Good news is that I almost never forget something I read.

Right now, doing my degree in International Relations.  Thinking about switching to kinesiology just because being a track coach would be awesome.  Might just take some USATF stuff instead though.  Will figure that out when the time comes.

Athlete at college, coach when I'm back near my highschool for more then a few days at a time.

I've played every sport known to man I think...including Basketball, Baseball, soccer, football, rugby, cricket, volleyball, Tennis, track (from 100m to 800m), martial arts, and thats all that comes to mind right now.

Training.  Hah.  I didn't do any of that before college.  Closest I came was daily plyos in highschool.  Didn't really train that much my freshman year of college either, because I was constantly injured.  Think my longest streak of being uninjured was like 7 weeks throughout the year.  Was a horrible year for me.  Actually plannin to train hard this year, and to not get hurt (Screw you, stairs!)

Bowerman considered himself a teacher more than a coach--the professor of the competitive response, but none of us that preceded him got it like Steve Prefontaine. Steve became the ultimate student--he redefined the word “competitor”. Bowerman and Prefontaine would become a collaborative effort that would turn Hayward Field into a magical place.

Hey, just found this site, am absolutely amazed, whoever started this has my vote for president.  Anyway, I just got a coaching job, am out looking for information.  I am a distance guy, but my long term goal is a head track and field coach, so I want to learn all I can about every event.

1. Seattle, Washington
2. USATF Level I Coaching School, 10 years of distance running.  I will be attending Level II school in Endurance ASAP.
3. Training for Olympic Marathon Trials, just got assistant coaching job at a local university.
4. I compete in distance, will be coaching cross country in the fall, throws in the spring.
5. I have been training since 1996, I am 23 so that is almost half my lifetime.

Nice to meet you all, great site, I'm amazed.

Matt
