Anyone care to discuss the superiorirty of leg extensions to squats? Or the fact that training on the pec dec is far more valuable than the bench press.

In both stabilizers are not being utilized.
The squat is a core exersise.. Mike could into detail lalking about this.  Leg extensions do absolutley nothing as far as core strength.. only the quads are involved. Squats also involves 65% of your muscles. Leg extensions are good for bodybuilding and so is the pec deck. There are both nonspecific in track and serve no purpose.

Discuss the superiority of extensions to squats…

No - I can't see a discussion point there.

EMG analysis shows much greater quad. activation during the leg extension as opposed to the squat. Same goes with the pec dec versus the bench press

Fellas-
Matt is correct. Leg extensions are far superior at causing patellar tracking problems and knee joint tendinitis, developing artificial and maladaptive muscle recruitment (for the real and sporting world), and wasting time. The pec deck is far superior to the bench at placing isolated loads at extreme ranges of motion in a uniplanar fashion on the most unstable joint in the body. Like leg extensions, the pec deck is also a superior waste of time.

While these two exercises are great, I have personally found that a single mega-high rep set of isokinetic wrist curls performed to absolute failure is the best way to enhance athletic performance.

Matt….you're a funny guy.

I forgot to mention that you should only do these lifts (or any other) twice a month for 1 set each to failure.

Stip sets of seated calf raises have made me a sub 12 sprinter.
