well first day of track practice today.  jesse was the only newcomer for the first day, heppler should be here next week.  doug is still training, so its been a lot easier to coach.  today was just an easy day, so i could get to see how dougs form might have changed, and so i can see how jesse runs.

30m:  jesse comes out of the blocks and gets up almost right away.  he doesnt have a very complete arm swing either and runs very tense with short strides.  doug comes out looking pretty much the same as he always has.  his start is much smoother than jesses and he stays down lower longer.

60m (65 yds):  i had jesse and doug run this together, and i was suprised at the result.  doug started much quicker, and jesse didnt start to catch up until doug slowed down at 60 yds.  i noticed the same things as in the 30m.

300m:  this was supposed close to 100%, but doug convinced jesse to run it slow.  i wasnt very happy with that.

the rest of the time we talked some theory so jesse could get a better idea of what to expect when training with me and doug.  im doing things differently this year and hope to see better results.

june 28, 2006 (wednesday)
2x5x110 yds
this was done at a slow pace so i could tell jesse how to run better.  hes looking better, though he has a running style that im not sure i like.  it looks similar to gatlins almost, it isnt textbook at all.  well see how things progress though.  his knees are still pretty low, along with his arm swing, ill work on getting them higher.  doug is clearly the better textbook sprinter (he is faster too), though his attitude hasnt improved much since we trained before, and it will slow his progress considerably.  i have to work around jesses football schedule, so ill see how i have to change things around.

jesse and doug both looked ok on these runs, i would liked them to look a little better.  they both came up near the end.  well work on form and tempo tomorrow.

volume is low.  for doug its because hes not in shape.  for jesse its because he does football practice and lifts outside of my training.

doug didnt come today.  jesse was burned out hardcore from football already so i just had him warm up and work on some form.  once i told him about stepping over the knee, his form fell into place and he looked way better.

jesse did 5x110 yds
i told doug to do 3x5x110 yds.  whether or not he does it is up in the air.

I agree with utfootball.  The volume looks low for someone not in shape.

jesse did: 10, 20, 30, 55, 30, 30, 55, 20, 30 (all meters)

i had to change things a lot (as can be seen from the order) since doug wasnt here today and i found out that the football team was practicing on the turf.  either way, jesse looked great.  he still has a lot of flaws in his form, but he was tearing down the track and everything was looking much improved.  when i train with him next week ill work on some new things. now that his form doesnt need to be completely revamped, ill work on one thing at a time.  he can handle a much higher volume than doug, and he will be a beast come track season.  hopefully i can get a video camera to take videos and get more exact times for his runs.  ill post them if i can get them.
