You know the funny thing is that I only found a couple minor exercises from this whole forum, I have modified my exercises a bit too, still the same just some errors. But these exercises are really good especially my arm work…when I swing them like I'm running they feel awsome, they feel stable and strong enough to keep me satisfied. Still I'm interested in finding other ab workouts too… but I don't think I'll get a straight answer ...lol right Monkey

Be inventive with your ab exercises, remember you need to work all eight of the abdominal muscles.

the only question I have: is which weight lifting exercises are critical for mid and long track sprinters and which ones that might not be critical but still beneficial?

You should only do Olympic lifts like Power Clean and Snatch if you can do them properly, it would be wise to have a strength and conditioning coach present while performing them. If you cannot do them properly all you need is overhead medicine ball throws, you can develop the same amount of explosion from them as you can from olympic lifts.

Dumbbell Arm Swings are'nt critical but if you think they'll help then do them.

I would do hyper extensions but don't over load becuase you need your back for everyday life the last thimg you want is a bad back.

(Squats, step ups) and Bench Press are good but try doing them only twice a week
You could do lunges and single leg sqauts on another workout day.

hope this helps…

I like to weight lift 3x a week but my most important question is should I involve all body work on the same days, kind of like circuit training, but initially doing 3-4 sets per each exercise before the next?

When you say all body work I presume you are talking about sports-specific
for sprinters, if so then yes it is ok.

Are you saying that even distance runners should use the same strength training program Sprinters use. If it's all the same which ones would you recommend. Maybe variations might be more specific for different athletes, but like coach johnson said the basics are good to do consistently.

i feel that all athletes should train strength in the weightroom then get specific on the track - speed, endurance etc etc

alright thanks. that's a basic strength training program which I definitely understand. do you have any specific exercises that you would recommended for strength training for sprinters.

Those are the best basic exercises for sprinters alike. You can add a different variety of exercises that may be beneficial, but not as  critical as core exercises. You aren't limited to ol's/sq/press etc. I posted this web site here and it is helpful and gives you options on what you can use for strength exercises.
