so, i have a possible problem, other than the fact that i foul virtually every single jump i do.

i injured my foot and missed the last 2-3 weeks of indoor, over that time all i could do was lift, then i took one week off and started training for outdoor, back to conditioning cycyle etc because i am going to be peaking for july time. During the first practice back i was jumping from 14 and jumped 7.45m which was a huge PR from 14 strides, then during my first speed workout i PR'd in the 40m by 4 hundreds.

I feel this is a problem, as my peak isnt suposed to be until july. What shall i do? shall i back off training?
are these results normal and ok? can someone tell me if i need to change anything in order to not be in this shape now?

thanks.

Dang, nice jumps uk! This happened to my long jumper last year in April, as well…he had to take it easy for about 2 weeks because of a lower abdominal strain, and it forced a premature peak (7.44m). We loaded him up in order to stave off the peak, but it only made him tired the rest of the season…His marks were way down (~6.50m) because of trying to refreshen the base when the competitions were already under way. Although we were able to get him back (7.17m) by the state meet in June, he really wasn't quite the same the rest of the season.

I would like to hear what others think about what you should do, as well. If given the same situation again, I might just let him roll with it, since it is happening, with the fulfillment of new PR's, although at the wrong time. Or you could experience these successes early, just load yourself again slightly, and try to delay your peak to the best of your ability. I actually think you can make peaking last for quite some time in the jumps (6 weeks or more).

As for fouling every jump, I don't know if this is cheating, but you could set your water jug a foot before the board and do your steering to that…that should get your foot to actually land on the board.

What's wrong with practice PR's?  In my book, this is a reason to be happy due to your training indicators, but they are just that, indicators. Sounds like you've put in excellent preparation for your event and the forced rest just helped to bring out the results of your work.  This shouldn't be anything to freak over.

A lot of what you're asking depends on several variables.  How much over your old 14-step PR was the jump last week?  What is your competitive LJ PR?  What are your performance goals for the LJ this season?  What was the nature of your foot injury?  Are you back to 100% from the injury?  What is your current planned schedule for the outdoor conditioning, SPP, Comp cycles?  How long have you been training / competing (training age)?

Well for notruthless,

previous 14 step best was 7.30m, 18 step best (also PR is 7.54m) my full approach is 21 steps and i had many jumps over 7.54m this past indoor but they were all fouls by an inch or so.

due to that, my goal for outdoor is 7.75m +. I sprained my foot and im not 100% but i can train fully. Its just sore.

current plan is to peak in july back in england. However due to being in college here i will do outdoor meets starting april 14th. I will however be training through these comps, and will be in max strength phase for them all. It wont be until mid june that i will start my proper comp/ power phase of training.

ive been jumping 3 years and in a periodized system for 1 year. im 23.

I noticed you're other thread re. 20m sprint times, pretty impressive.  http://www.elitetrack.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,94/topic,5144.0/topicseen,topicseen

Tell us about your progress since your outdoor season began.  How have your competitions gone? How close are you to your 7.75 goal?  Since your still competing, have you met the regional qualifying mark?

Best of luck this weekend.

Well, because my peak is to be july/august me and my coach decided pretty much forgo the ncaa outdoor season…basically i re-did the training from indoor to aim for a true second peak. I have only had 2 competitions but have only jumped from 12-14 strides (7.14m) with many fouls again…Training however has gone very well, i am about 4 weeks ahead of everything compared to where i was indoor season (strength, speed etc) i have been consistently jumping around7.30m from 14 which is way better than indoor…

i will be jumping from a full approach however this weekend at IC4A, just to see where i am…my season will really start in june back home at the bedford international games…me and my coach still beleive that the 7.75m goal will happen…if not more.
