I've worked with several shoe biomechanists who've consulted with all the major brands and they say there's definitely a point of limiting returns when it comes to the 'what you get is what you pay for' idea. The el cheapos (the ones that originally retail for $55-65) are typically not the best option. The best bang for the buck shoes are probably in the $80 range. Anything over $120 and you're either paying for cosmetics or paying off the brand new research and possibly getting a product that hasn't been fully refined yet (which typically happens after several iterations of a shoe have been released).

Alternatively, consider buying a year old model. Shoe technology doesn't advance that fast and you can usually get shoes at a 30-50% discount by buying last seasons style / edition.

Support / Stability shoes are generally not the same as cushioned shoes. That's not to say they don't provide cushioning but the two qualities are somewhat exclusive.

From things you've said in the past, I suspect you'll need a support / stability shoe. As for specific recommendations, New Balance and Brooks are probably the industry leader for that type of shoe but all companies make a support shoe with good selling points. You really just have to go and try the shoe on (do that at a store even if you're buying online). Everyone's foot is different and we can't tell you what will work perfectly for you.
