Thats what my coach wants me to do. I have no problem with it if its warm, but I’m gonna be honest, I don’t feel in anywhere near 400 shape! That last 50m is gonna hurt!

I’m back to full in the weight room. I did build ups to as close to top speed as I could get today, which was around 90%. The only thing that happens is on the full cycle through near top speed it grabs and doesn’t relax as quickly as it should.

Agreed, not worth the risk at all right now.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal...Powell good sprinting speed....oh that is huge!

Yeah, I’m a bit worried that this is taking this long to heal fully. Since strength doesn’t seem to be affected by it and I can still get in good conditioning, how long should it take to get my speed back to where it used to be?

Question for the brains here bigger than mine. I was doing some 300’s today and I noticed that my body wanted to sit while running instead of staying tall. I’m assuming that more bike work than usual because of the injury is causing my hip flexors to be tighter than usual. Should I just do some stretches for it or will it come back naturally? It feels awkward as hell running like that, but forcing myself tall feels like I’m straining, which never happened before.

I didnt do much biking but i had a similar problem and it seem to correct itself as i did more speed work.

Yes. I’ve seen this frequently among my athletes who are forced to do alternative workouts that do too much cycling. Now, I make sure we don’t cycle more than 2 days in a row and don’t ever slog through slower cycling (even for rest intervals). Also, if you mix in multi-jumps (when possible) or cleans / DB swings as the alternative workout you’ll find you don’t have that problem. In place of a speed workout, we might do something 24 x 1 @ 75% w/ 45s rest.

I took the race easy. I hit the first 200 in a 25 and then just held on for a 50.6. I didn’t run the 4x4 because I didn’t want to press it with two races. I was in dead last at the 200 and that felt weird as hell, I just took a really easy accell until I was near racing speed and managed to hold it for the whole race. 400’s feel really long and crappy if you run it paced instead of having different phases.

Mike- for the alt speed workout, would you still have a normal lifting session for that day, even though the speed work was done via lifting?

Yeah, another 400 and I’m entered in the 200 for today, but that depends on how strong it feels during the 400.
