About an hour and a half before a race I usually take a small dose of caffeine. Would this be better? I’ve used them a once or twice throughout the season before hard workouts if I was pretty tired before hand and they felt pretty good.

Anyone see anything not kosher with the ncaa rules? I looked but I couldn’t find anything wrong.

I love the stuff but use it very sparingly.  I vaguely remember the NCAA having an issue with energy drinks (taurine).

If I were the NCAA D3, I would be more worried about bogus marks making it to the national meet rather than energy drinks but oh well.  NCAA loves you.  Be sure not to think impure thoughts and only drink tap water and eat lettuce and you’ll be fine.  They can’t afford to test anyway so while you drop your energy drink, someone else is double dosing their prohormones.

Hahaha!

How do you ban amino acids? What if I bring a steak to the meet? Do I get DQ’d? Are there only certain cuts of steak allowed?

Seriously though, I checked the banned substance list and never saw anything mentioned about amino acids. Are non-essential amino acids banned from being distributed by schools? Like how Muscle Milk had to come out with the collegiate version to hit the right calorie from protein ratio?

Ok, I found a good answer here.

Amino acids and all of those other things in the article are impermissable to be distributed to athletes by the institution.

Yea there are weird rules like you can’t add additional bcaa’s to a supp (other than what occurs in the protein itself) nor can the supp be above a certain % of protein.  Carl Valle might be the most informed person on this.

I remember Jimmy Smith saying that his school bitched them out during NCAA tournament bball for drinking an energy drink containing taurine (which he purchased on his own) because it was banned.  Maybe you could ping him.  NCAA is mad weird with that shit but like you said, taurine isn’t gonna show up on your piss test.

Did they really ban aminos? That’s absurd.

lmao aminos are free flowing in your body. Everyone would be banned then because of mRNA and protein synth.

I believe this is true (the athlete can purchase aminos but trainers/coaches cant provide to the athlete), this is the reason why many of the ncaa approved supps have twice as many carbs grms vs protein grms.

Yeah, I didn’t mean it was a blanket ban, but rather supps provided by institutions can’t have certain amounts like UT said

Thanks for clarification. I knew that was the case for protein content but wasn’t aware of that for aminos. It’s been 4 years since I’ve been at an institution that actually provides supplements to the athletes.

I did however at first when i took it I got a mean stomach ache im not talking about the little rumble in your tummy im talking about the dizzy kind I was afraid i couldnt race. But after a half an hour it got better I warmed up and finished off the bottle after my warm up and raced. I ended doing very well.

A good lesson to remember not to try new things (spikes, supplements, etc) on race day without trying them in practice first.

Buy another bottle for what? You already tried the product and know what to expect from it.
