As long as contact is minimal I guess it could work. The problem would be if things got intense and competitive…then you’re looking at intensities you don’t want along with the opportunity for injury (especially lateral).

I remember some time back on this forum someone referring to how they started doing more lateral activities and how they thought that helped them in terms of not getting injured.  Is there any credence to this?  For a personal example, before switching solely to track, I played team sports also and had no problems with injury.  Now after a few years of just track it seems like I’ve had more injuries than I’ve ever had.  I suppose it could be coincidence.

ok, im finally back on this site after being locked out for eve, it seems…

i was jumperuk before…

but i think it was me who spoke the lateral movments and injury ect…becuase since i started track ive had so many problems with my ankles, and before i played basketball, soccer etc and i never had any problems. Then i started adding lateral work into some track workouts, and my ankle problems went away and havent come back…

I like to put lateral training into my athletes training.  We do a good bit of side to side jumps and also lunges where you lunge forward and our 45 degrees.  We also do a two footed bounding set where you jump forward over a barrier, then left then forward then right then forward and so on till we get to the last two which are both forward and progressively higher.  Ten bounds in the run.
