We are gearing up for the NC state meet this weekend and I have an athlete who will be running the 3200 relay, the open 800, and the 1600 relay - I know that this can be a killer combination.  What would be the best methods to allow him to recover as best he can between these events?  (3200 relay will be about 12:00, 800 will be about 4:30, and 1600 relay will be about 5:15).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I always run 3200 relay,800m,1600m in same day(which is more killer combination than yours) and i’m fine. smile

to perform best in the tournament, i recommend you to drop one race.

I would suggest some sort of nutrition plan along with your recovery techniques. I have tried Accelerade and found that consuming it within 15 minutes of the performance aided recovery greatly.

Chad, thanks for the advice.  The 3200 relay was state runner-up (behind the athlete in question’s 2:00 PR split) with a new school record.  He finished 7th in the 800, and the 1600 relay finished 3rd (also with a new school record).
