Re:  The throwers falling flat at WC's….Didn't Nelson and Hoffa do well?  I know Breaux didn't perform as expected, but were the throwers a real disappointment?  Honestly asking here, I don't follow the throws closely.

I missed that. The American men's shot putters are among the most consistently best performers in championship situations….especially given the nature of field events make them much more unpredictable than sprints.

That was my impression.  When is Nelson not in the medals?  I did a poor job of quoting above, this is what I was referencing:

"American throwers fall flat on their faces in World Championships â?? Why? Because their preparation and training are stuck in the past it is about as contemporary as a Jefferson Airplane vinyl album."

Reese Hoffa did fall flat on his face….with joy after throwing 22.43 a few weeks before the WC ...then later winning the WC.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal…Powell good sprinting speed….oh that is huge!

The American male discus guys did not perform well.  The other American throwers had a very good championships, including Breaux.
