There’s so much good stuff to write about with this year’s Olympics I’m going to do a couple series and keep writing as the Olympics go on. The 100m is one event that I’d really like to take a closer look at. If you didn’t know, the results are in and a new person has claimed the title of “World’s Fastest Human.“ Since the TV broadcast isn’t on until tonight and I know some people don’t

I heard some of the damage was to the tendonous attachment which will take a long time to resolve.  Even if he did make a miraculous recovery like everyone thought would surely happen (recovering from his “cramp”) I think he would have done no better than silver.  Heck I don’t think he’d do better than silver even if he never got hurt to begin with.  It’s nearly impossible to run a time all out with +4 wind then a month later run it with +0 wind.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal…Powell good sprinting speed….oh that is huge!

Heres an article where Gay talks a little on his injury.  He mentions he had 3 weeks of no activity as part of his recovery which obviously hurt his performance.  I realize that with an injury like his you need time to recover.  However, with the amount of time he had between when he got injured and the start of the qualifying rounds was this the best method of rehab?

Agreed. I think if at FULL strength, he would have taken silver pretty easily but still would have lost to Bolt by over a tenth of a second.

The quote I recall was something to the effect of that he’d better get some serious help before he takes the track again (after the 100m final at the Trials)...

I think he did get serious help in Germany on the therapy end.

Too late.

My rough recall of what Dan said was his refering to Gay after the 100 final, not after the pull in the 200m.

I think he might have been safer had he run more intelligently (not run 9.7 and 9.8 in the quarter and semi).

What would Pfaff say after Bolt’s run?  Is he in the safe zone because it was apparently submax?

I was wondering the same thing.

Although, both times breaking 9.70 prior, the wind was creating unnatural eccentric forces on each athlete. Bolt did it completely under his own power, so could his body just be a different animal altogether?

It could be the magic power of McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets

Gay was a 9.80 basic at best, so he would get a silver but finish more than a tenth behind Bolt. Im sure Bolt would not have shut down had Gay been a bit closer to him.
