What If They Stopped Training?

Say any of the elite sprinters in the 100m stopped training and were pretty much inactive right when their career was about to start, how much slower do you think they be after 5 years? What if they stopped training for track before high school, and after 5 years of no training ran a 100m, how fast would it be? Hypothetical, but any guesses?

Here is some stats that might help, these are for myself, by no means an elite sprinter but quicker than the average joe.
1989 Age 19 100 meters 10.86
No active sprint training for following 9 years
1998 Age 28 100 meters 11.04
No active sprint training following 9 years
2007 Age 37 100 meters 11.51
All times electronic and legal, stayed in shape in the intervals with the normal type of fitness crap but nothing specific with the exception of the 6 months prior to the age 37 run.
So there was a .2 of a difference from age 19-28 but I reckon for the true elite sprinter at the top of their game I reckon there would be a drop of of about .5 if they stopped training specific but stayed in some sort of shape

In your example, I think they might run faster after 5 years.  Stopping before high school implies stopping at around age 14.  So five years later they would be much more mature and this might overcome any losses from not training.

yeh i agree with ex- if they stopped before highschool and started back 5 yrs later- just with their bodies being more mature and developed would help them to run faster

Just to add what has been said, it seems that the early to mid 20s is crucial to being able to come back. We can see this in guys and gals who’ve been forced out due to doping violations and then struggle to come back even when they still return to the special vitamins after their suspension. On the other hand, guys who were very active during their suspension (Dwayne Chambers is the most notable) return with much more ease.

Where in the world did you get this from? I can’t see anything discussed above that would have warranted a comment about anabolics.

Griff thanks for your times(sub 11-nice). In my own case, yes if you stopped training before high school, you’d still have a faster time because the body is still growing.
