I thought some of you might be interested in this excerpt from an article about former World Champion Tianna Madison.

We talk about her coach, Bobby Kersee, the husband of retired U.S. record holder Jackie Joyner-Kersee. He has unusual training methods. His long jumpers spend the fall laying down base training by running repeat 600-meter runs—“which I hate,“ Madison interjects—and 500s, 450s and 400s—“and all of that I hate,“ she adds.

But Madison believes in Kersee. “He gives me technique—and headaches,“ she says.

From HERE.

She is amazing.  But not this year.  Why did she move out to LA with Bobby?  -1foot in an Olympic year is bad.  -10pts on Bobby for this one.  [i am so critical smile]

The path to mastery will have many bumps in the road. Never lose sight of the goal. 8 metres.

A friend of mine who was an elite short hurdler and trained with Kersee for a while said they used to do lots of 800m runs in the fall. She said she couldn’t handle the training load but that there were several that could.

Aside from his wife and obviously the subject, are there or have there been other world class jumpers that proved successful with his complete work package?

Insight:
*the ability to see clearly and intuitively into the nature of a complex person, situation, or subject Is he really that complex or intuitive
*a clear perception of something My “clear perception is” he lacks this very important quality
*the ability of somebody to understand and find solutions to his or her personal problems Dont let the glare from his wife’s medals blind you into expecting that he can walk on water.  If you are going to move to LA and follow him into the surf, better be wearing some drip dry clothing because you are gonna get wet.

The members of this board and as well the track people in the US need to come to grips with the fact that many successful athletes are: a. not a result of good coaching b. saddly are to some extent the result of chemo pharmo assistance, with many the product of both the preceeding…

“Say a prayer for Reno” pass it on…

There are actually a couple however most of his best athletes seem to be hurdlers and sprinters.
