Well he jumped 7.71m in practice just a couple days earlier. Plus all the speed-power indexes are at life time PR levels? Add to that the athlete’s own admission and the observation of others who were at the competition that he wasn’t running aggressively and it seems like a surefire assessment.

You are correct that there was no drastic change…I suppose what confused me was Nick’s qoute below

“Toady was pretty good. I felt bouncy and tall. I’m SOOOOO sore though still. I haven’t been this sore in ages. NOT what i wanted the day before the biggest meet of indoor season. I had a feeling that squating at such a high percentage after a week of no lifts would do this. And it did. My quads and glutes are just really sore. Didnt effect sprinting but i doubt i could have took off today. We’ll see how i feel tomorrow.”

Yeah…I think the soreness was due to a couple things.

I had originally had a short lifting session in the day that Nick was to leave for the UK but it had to be scratched because his flight was earlier than I had expected. That made for a longer break than I’d really wanted between weight sessions. Combine that with all the travel (which can cause soreness by itself) and I think that’s why Nick got sore.

We talked and he felt fine on the comp day so I think it was a non-issue.

Yeah i was fine on the day on the comp…Quads were a little tight after warm up but that wasn’t the reason i wasn’t running like i do in training.

What happened happened. I hungry to get back to training and start using 99% of my speed on the runway, it’ll take me a while to adjust the steering but it will pay off in the long run im sure.

If you have a good internet connection, you can watch it in high quality by using the option on the right side of the video.

nice video..when i seen the last jump it looked bad compared to the 7.7m jumps…if you thought you were running slow you must have a REALLY big jump in you…you should put up some training vids like sprints jumps weight room that would be cool…

There’s one training video from 3 weeks ago with Nick in the weight room doing Olympic lifts and a squat complex.I actually posted in this thread.

Interestingly enough i managed to hit 10m/s on 2 of the jumps and the others were 9.95, 9.90 etc etc and i was running very much with in myself. The 2 fouls were pretty good and on the first 7.32m i toed the board and lost about 18cm’s at take off. So overall, everything is fine, these last 2 indoor meets i will run a lot faster for sure.

Thanks Kendall, jumps minus the landings were good yes. Landing lost me 20-30cm everytime when you slow mo it and analyse them. I will keep working at it though…

Todays training…

AM)
Short warm up
Dynamic flex
sprint drills
hurdle drills

3x(20,30,40m sprints on the runway)
2x bounding series (lll,rrr,rlrl,rrll etc)

PM)
Clean pull - 3x1 (last 1 @105%)
Power Clean - 3x1 @90%

Squats - 4x2 (last 1 @85%)
+ Hurdle hops - 4x3

Bench Press - 5x3
OHB med ball throw x8

Today was a good day. I started a slightly new approach style today. Instead of my 2 point start i am going to experiment with a walk in + skip start very simular to that of Andrew Howe and Ivan Peroso. Reason? Well, it obviously helps me push harder from the start and it also kinda drives home the fact that i need to be aggressive throughout the run. Today i was much faster than i was at the trials and i really liked how the new run feels. I did 16.60m in the LLRR exercise today. Haven’t done a double double in ages.

The weight room was very pleasing as well. I was kinda nervous coming in because i have cleaned in 2 weeks. I was able to lift 290 pretty easily which out did expectations for today.

To finish out the first part of the year i am jumping at the USC Trojan Relays on March 1st and then my home track of CSUF in the Ben Brown Invitational on March 7th. I’m definitily looking to PR in those meets.

Tried but it wasn’t working properly. Had problems with the batteries etc…

Can only guess what it was. But if the trials video was 9.90-10.0 m/s, you can take a good guess.

Here’s some better vids of the last meet. Note how there’s a rapid change in tempo / acceleration around the mid point in some of these jumps.
