Mixing Training Stimuli

Is it ok to do a conditioning/tempo-type session in the AM and an Acceleration/MaxV-type
training several hours later?  If not running, what kind of activity would be suggested so
as not to comprise the speed session?

you’ll probably be ok if the time between is longer than 4 hours and if the tempo session wasn’t too taxing.  I wouldn’t do it this way, but I am not you and i am not in that situation.

Yeah i agree. IF you NEEDED to do this way, i would say do the accels first and the tempo in the PM. Quality must come first. However, it also depends which is the dominant biomotor for you event.

Yes, the only reason I’m forced to squeeze things this way is because I’m doing more traveling on the weekends than planned.

Provided the tempo session is not taxing, I don’t think I necessarily agree that quality “must come first”.  If I did accels first, CNS fatigue will set in a few hours later and muscles might be too tired/tight to keep good form, so I’d rather not risk injury…

ok disagree…in the past i have jumped in the AM and in the PM done a sprint workout. My best sprint workouts have always came after my CNS had been worked that day. But each person is different, what i can handle the next person may not…and yes if the tempo session isnt taxing then fine…but if it isnt taxing at all, why not just take it out?

I prefer to not do it like that but I have occasionally and it’s not too bad. I think over time though you’ll be sending mixed signals. What’s the time period that the body needs between 2 sessions to not experience training interference? I don’t know, but it seems like it’s probably at least around 6-8 hours. The interference effect isn’t going to kill the adaptation but it makes it less than optimal.
