Here’s another 5 minute clip from Dan Pfaff from the National Podium Education Project in Las Vegas. This talk was on absolute strength and power development for world class horizontal jumpers. As you may be able to tell, Pfaff is a generalist and many of the themes that he uses for coaching one event group are used in what may appear to be very different event groups. Enjoy.

I’m going to try to put most of the lectures on here but I’ve reached my Vimeo imposed limit for uploads for this week and it takes FOREVER to encode the vids because they are in HD….I’m talking about 4-5 hours just to prepare one for upload. The Pfaff lectures are beasts…over 10 gb a piece in their entirety because they were shot on an HD camcorder. I prefer to use Vimeo because it handles the videos much more cleanly but they only allow 500mb of upload a week on their free plan.

I do have one other Pfaff video (a discus throw one) as well as a Tellez long jump video that have already been uploaded and I’ll release these to the public over the next couple days.

As for who the 8m jumpers are I’m not sure. He had guys come train with him for short stints last year who might have been capable of it but I’m not aware of any LJers in the past year who’ve trained with him on a regular basis who would have fallen in to that category.

Every time I see Dan speak I giggle because he says some of the most complicated things like they are common knowledge to everyone in the room and keeps on going.  He is a wealth of knowledge and I am glad he is coaching for the US.  If Mike won’t post this video and it isn’t against the rules I can put it on a different server if you give me some time.

Thanks for putting this up!

I’ve never had a chance to see Dan in person but the brief glimpses you’ve provided make it easy to understand why he’s the best. The comment about block training was interesting. Reminds me a bit of Charles Poliquin ( and maybe Charlie Francis ) in that, regardless of training age, you’re always going back and forth between accumulation and intensification or GPP and SPP.

I’d definitely like to see any of the Podium series lectures if they get put up for sharing.  I’ve got a few Pfaff lectures and everytime I hear him speak I always borrow, and am reminded of, some great ideas and tenants.
