Ok I am scheduled to give blood on Monday and I have a meet on Tuesday. Do you think it will affect my meet? What can I do (as in eat) so that it doesn’t affect me as much? Im nervous becuause a teamate last year donated blood and never ran good again for the rest of the year…

Donating blood and getting bloodwork are very different with the later not nearly as much blood as the former.

I have an idea…don’t donate blood.  Or at least wait until after the season.

Lewis almost certainly has his hands on a 3rd consecutive gold medal…Powell good sprinting speed….oh that is huge!

Awesome Link.

Anyone know how much blood is taken when going to get blood work done?
Say 4 of those test tubes they need to fill?
Does 10 ml as opposed to 470 ml (blood donation) sound correct?

As far as I know the amount of blood they take for blood work depends on what tests are going to be run.  I don’t know how many tests there are out there except I have work done annually and they test for cholesterol, plus a few others related to blood pressure and thyroid conditions (more looking for residual levels of the meds prescribed or indicators of the same…) and they have never taken more than 4 of those smaller tubes.
That is not much, I had on incident when I was much younger getting hit in the face with a snowball and lost a LOT more via the nosebleed.

This is weird, the first time reading quikazhell’s question the last sentence was missing…

I would guess the small tubes are maybe 7 to 10ml each but there are some about double as well (not sure why, there is only one test I have done when they use those but I don’t know which one it is)

Well I am planning on donating blood for our school blooddrive and I think I will have to give 2 pints. I am starting to reconsider because of the meet on Tuesday but im still not sure. I dont want to do it if it is going to affect my running ability a lot..

it would affect your performance i agree on what mortac8 said.
If possible don’t donate your blood before the meet it takes time for the loss blood
to recover
