I almost always hurt my ankle in competition. Problem with my takeoff?

As of now there’s no way for me to get good video. The only thing I have now is my phone and the quality is average so I doubt it would help at all.

Could it be that my ankle is just weak and can’t handle the force I exert at takeoff? Or could it be that my mechanics are bad? (In high school coaches always complimented me on my form so I don’t think it’s that, but it is a possibility)

After every competition I usually have to take about 2-3 days off because my ankle hurts when I put weight on it. Any guesses on the cause? How can I strengthen my ankle?

Was there any point in time where you remember hurting it..like were you competing and then right after a specific competition it was hurting you?  It could be because of takeoff mechanics or running mechanics but hard to say without video or anything.  You wouldn’t want to do any strengthening stuff for it right after injuring it or while its still tender.

I pretty much hurt it after I long jump.

Basically every meet = hurt ankle. What could I be doing wrong? I know it’s hard to say without any video, but what are some possible causes?

I think Eric was asking about the first time ever you noticed it started hurting. I am asking whether you got some kind of medical evaluation of the condition of your ankle right after that moment?

Are you pronating at take off? Are you heelstriking? I have a similar problem and it’s due to pronation caused by bad mechanics in my penultimate (reaching).

Never got it checked out because it always got better no more than 3 days after a meet

BINGO! I think that might be my problem. All the shoes I wear to school wear out faster on the outer edges. Is that fixable? I thought it was natural (for me) to pronate. How the heck can I fix that when I jump if I can’t even control it when I walk?
