In baseballand many other sports there is a huge conspiracy of silence that hasgone on and continues today. I am convinced NOBODY is really willing toconfront the problem of drugs in sport head on. I will use baseball asan example. Coaches, trainers, owners, general managers all knew orstrongly suspected what was going on. The approach was ?if we ignorethe problem it will go away.? In baseball there is a culture oftolerance for drugs in the form of alcohol and amphetamines.
Iam really interested to see who Mitchell has talked in his inquiry.Have they talked to Jason Giambi?s personal trainer who had to knowwhat was going on? Have they talked to everyone involved with the TexasRangers during the Juan Gonzales era? Have they talked to all the teamtrainers, assistant trainers, conditioning coaches and clubhousepeople? I suspect not. Why because they do not want to know how deepthe problem is.
