If you visited the site in the past 2 days you may have noticed that parts or all of it have been offline. Sorry bout that. I’ve been doing some maintenance and upgrading under the hood. I upgraded the core software that the site is running to the latest version, but more importantly, I made a bunch of fixes to the database that should make the forum easier to follow….there were a ton (5,533 to be exact) of instances where the quoting function was broken in the forum. This was a holdover problem from the conversion that was done last year that caused the new platform to not recognize many of the old quotes in the forum. As a result, it made it nearly impossible to tell who was saying what since quoted comments and posts were not showing up as quotes, but instead were showing up in the body of the new post as if they were said by the post’s author. The problem was really prevalent but it should now be solved. Also, in doing this, I noticed that many of the forum discussions of blog postings were not linked. As a result, clicking on the continue reading… link in the forum entry wouldn’t take you to the actual blog post (so you couldn’t read anything but the short summary) and similarly, clicking on the discuss entry link on the blog post might not take you to the correct forum discussion if there was a pre-existing one. This should be fixed now too. I’m going to be doing a couple more upgrades over the next week, some of which should really improve the usability of the site so stay tuned.
