We’ve recently been spoiled by the amazing feats of Asafa Powell’s 9.72 personal best in Lausanne and Usain Bolt’s string of sub 9.85s. So much so that it’s easy to forget that someone other than these two actually produced the fastest 100m ever. EVAR. Tyson Gay. Remember him? He’s that guy who didn’t make the final at the Olympics due to lack of race fitness caused by an injury at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Yeah him. He’s that guy who broke the American record in the 100m and ran the fastest 100m of all time in the course of 2 days. He’s the guy that ran 0.08s faster than Usain Bolt ran at the Jamaican National Championships on the same weekend in June. He’s the guy that was supposed to challenge Asafa Powell and Usain for the title of World’s Fastest Human at the Beijing Olympics.
An injured hammy in the Olympic Trials put an end to all that.
But let’s not forget what this guy did. I already took a look at Usain’s insane 100m race at the Olympics. Now let’s took at Gay’s ridiculous 100m series in Eugene. I’ve made a couple videos and we’ll look at Tyson’s prelim, his American record 9.77 and his blistering 9.68 from the finals. All the videos are available for free download if you go to the ELITETRACK channel on Vimeo.
