My latest project is working with a High School hurdler that is a junior here in Massachusetts. One can use low dose cuing with a shaping and piecing approach to allow for Self-Organization. My choice is to separate the mechanics of hurdles in to what are influenced by the stretch reflex of joints and what are truly conscious actions of the athlete. Another view is to see what is motor skill and what is physiological/anatomical as technique is always under the eye of context. After I review today’s film, I will create a list of errors and sort them into categories and classify the technique issues into what is the most practical based on the time I have with him. Over the next four weeks I will update this topic as most coaches are at the HS level and wish to see what different coaches do to in their programs.
