I am happy I am not the only one that questions the use of box jumps, especially with landing positions. When looking for photos of google I stumbled on this blog, and it’s refreshing that other people understand that landings are a vital component of jumping. Box jumps are favored by some as they seem to improve quickly, but actual displacement and shoving your feet to your throat is not the same. Jumping on a box is great, but people should spend most of the time negotiating the ground better(Radcliffe 2011 GAIN). While some elastic benefits exist, box jumps are not reactive an focus on banana hurdles is better time spent than focusing on maxing out on an exercise that has poor transfer. Following the classic guideline of jumping in place and jumping horizontally first is the most valuable investment that athletes can be involved with.
