The Air Time of the hurdle flight is a big metric when trying to optimize performance, but a few other elements are also important. Flight Distances and changes in the pelvic projection must be minimal. Deciding on what is appropriate is highly dependent on the athlete’s COM during the flight path, meaning good take of distances have athletes coming down before the hurdle. The apex of the COM must be before the hurdle, not right above it. A summary of the Key Performance Indicators for Hurdles will be released soon on Speed Endurance and the expanded details will be in the article section later this month. 20 years ago Renaldo Nehemiah went 12.93 in Zurich and we need to start finding ways to get more athletes under 13 seconds and into the 12.70s to progress the event further.
