Matt Herod from Empowered Athletes asked a few good questions on soccer training. I worked with a few soccer athletes this summer and it was interesting to see the culture of the sport dominate the training methods. The problem with changing culture is that many want to break down barriers. It’s better to sneak in than to ram the front door down. Instead of focusing on max strength and RSA, I did small doses of speed work and plyometrics to clean up some major issues health wise. It was one of the most rewarding projects of my career since it made me think that agility is produced in the creative minds of athletes passionate about the sport than doing drone cone work on the field. Athletes want to have fun and get better, not just do a comfortable set-up or agility ladders all day. The interview is a interesting summary of some recent beliefs I have and I hope the read is worth it.
