Now we are seeing a huge influx in breathing training, something I wrote about earlier. The dirty secret is that breathing dysfunction exists with everyone, but the amount is minor enough not to loose sleep over it. The major problem coaches are complaining of is not having enough time to address all of the dysfunctions people are blogging about. When a leaning expert on breathing was contacted, his group discussion with several professional teams was very brief because he doesn’t see a big rate of truly problematic breathing. A lot of the corrective work was done by proper training and environmental conditions. How many athletes panic breathe because of life stress vs a diaphragmatic issue? What about training load and exercise instruction? Yoga has been researched to help COPD patients and recently new studies on athletes demonstrated that easy running created positive change.
