Distance or Power athletes should do blood work 1-2 times a year. I find that blood work before the GPP and in early June is a good time period for most athletes. If you are in the northeast, I find that February is also an important time to see if Vitamin D status is dropping or getting better with supplementation. One great provider is insidetracker an evolving quantifying self company. Blood testing is great for those looking at screening and seeing if diet and training are working in harmony. What I love about blood work is that it’s the gold standard, and it telling us what is going on from the inside. Many times performances are not indicative of what is going on with training because nutrition is a major component of our health and wellness. Getting blood work seems like a luxury, but loosing a season is a huge investment loss and prevention is key.
