Yesterday an agent had several of his athletes get genetically tested as they wanted to identify risk and see what they can do about it. Not only were tendons evaluated, their genetic code was being reviewed as it has some relations with achilles ruptures in the research. You can do a Y-Balance test all you want, but sometimes genes tell a different story. Dominique Wilkins tore his a achilles just jogging up the court, something that looks like randomness to me, but his brother Gerald tore his achilles a few years later. COL5A1? I don’t know but it could be. My belief is that without genetic testing, one can never know. I do think having a predisposition isn’t going to be fate, provided that you do everything else to reduce the chance of it.
