Today I finally grew some cahonas and did a harder workout and boy did it suck.
I did 2x2x200m with 90secs between reps and 5 min b/t sets. Boy, feel the lactic burn, baby 😯 It hurt like a mother. My quads, hamstrings, glutes, and even my arms were burning. I've never felt like this since I started training on my own (my school does these workout 2-3x's a week ALL YEAR).
I think one of my biggest problems was that I was going in the 70% range with little rest, which I'm not used to. I've been running short fast distances with longer rests all this time and now that I'm really hunkering down and getting my butt back in shape I'm feeling the pain. I wanted to do 2x3x200m, but after the 1st two, I knew it wasn't going to happen, so I was going to do 3x2x200m and that didn't happen either. So, after 2x2x200m I called it a day. I was so fried.
However, the analysis for the day is VERY good…
Positive: Form is back and I'm ready to fly soon here. I know it was slower running but the fact that I got my form back and was able to maintain it pretty well makes me very optimistic. I'm so happy. I noticed I was feeling like the end of a 400 race on the second rep of each set and I feel I did a pretty good job of maintaining my form as if it were the end of a race, as compared to last year. It was great. Knee drive is back, no more excessive backside mechanics. Stayed on my toes and had the arm drive that I should've had LAST year. I'm so happy  Felt good out there today.
Negative: The only negative aspect I need to point out is that I'm not in good shape right now at all if I could only get 800m of Interval work in this close to the start of my season. But, it's okay b/c I'll be doing Intervals at least 1x a week for the rest of the pre-season. Probably only 1x a week with hills 2x a week and 40yd program 1x. I think that'll put me in real good shape, especially if I up the intensity and volume of the hill workouts.
So, that's all from my end of the neighborhood 😀 Tomorrow after work I'm doing hills since I have to work in the morning (I'ma be exhausted b/c I work til 10 tonight and from 7am to 3pm tomorrow). Oh well.
To be continued…
