Has anyone ever incorporated ab work in between sets of weight workouts? For instance I like to have my athletes do a quick ab exercise between almost every set in the weightroom. An example would be 10-20 crunches in between each squat set. I found it to cut down on workout time as there’s no need to dedicate time to just ab work. By the end of lifting we’ve usually done around 200 ab reps. Any opinions on this either positive or negative?
Training economy is good, but I’d prefer to sandwich core work in with other low intensity
work a la Charlie Francis. Some coaches just can’t stand to see athletes resting and/or doing nothing. Why not statically stretch that which may inhibit them such as hip flexors or gastroc/soleus? Or if they split upper/lower strength work, why not stretch the opposite of what they are strengthening?
If they’re younger athletes, they might benefit from devoting more time to just ab work.
