Saturday January 31st
60m: Prelim: 7.81q
Final: 7.68 New PB
300: 39.40 New PB
General: I was a bit anxious leading up to this meet, so I didn't have the best two nights of sleep before hand (4 hours and 7:30 hours). I felt sort of weak, and not very explosive in the morning, but my feeling gradually improved throughout the day, and despite the lack of sleep, I felt pretty alert.
The 60's: As said above I didn't feel too explosive in my warmup, and as a result didn't get a great start in the race. I manage to relax decently at top speed, and overall felt okay, but nothing special and maybe even a bit flat. The time showed this (7.81 with a previous PB of 7.78), but I made the finals so I knew I would get another crack at it. In warmup to the finals, I was starting to feel a bit better. In the finals I did a much better job of staying down out of the blocks, and really turned it on at top speed. I did sort of an awkrad lean, but the time was awesome for me, so i was pleased (7.68). As noted above this was a new PB, and I was ecstatic afterwards 😀
300: Alright, I never look forward to running the 3, it's quite a distance for me, but I did feel pretty strong leading up to it. In indoor track the 3 consists of 3 bends and 3 straights, so I will break my race down that way. Bend1: got out of the blocks okay, but felt a bit shaky. I tried to get into a good sprinting position and just relax, both with some difficulty. Straight 1. I tried to relax and hold my speed as well as possible at this point. Towards the end of the straight it seemed like I was behind the pack by about 2 meters, but I did a good job of not panicking and sticking with the game plan. Around the second bend I started to gain slightly, still fighting to stay relaxed (sort of an oxymoron) It on the second straight where I really made a move on the competition. Everyone else seemed to slow down while I maintained my pace. Going into the corner, I felt I had a chance to win my heat, So I decided to go for it. I felt strong on the corner, and down the homestraight it was a duel between me and this other guy, and I managed to relax enough to pull away. Final time 39.40. This is down from 39.77 a month and a half ago. I was pleased with the way I ran my race and stayed patient and relaxed.
18 minute ice bath 3 hours post meet.
I can't wait to just relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend, and watch the superbowl of course.
