Not meaning to hijack but I still cant get it through my head the difference between an intensive tempo workout and a special endurance 1 workout. Intensive tempo has more volume, and less rest time, but is expected to be performed within 5% of the same speed as a Special Endurance workout?
There’s a lot of bleeding over when we get to these areas of sprint terminology and ultimately it doesn’t much matter as long as the progressions are correct and appropriate volumes, intensities and rest intervals are prescribed to meet the purpose of the workout.
Intensive tempo is just meant to beat the heck out of you, whereas Special Endurance which if used in a short-long model is used to maximise velocity endurance?
I think you’re comparing the high end of one spectrum to the low end of the other. It would be more useful to compare low-to-low otherwise you’re going to get in to the semantics issues above. Having said that, 5% really isn’t something to scoff at in my mind. That’s the difference between a 200m runner with a 21.5 second PR doing intervals at 23.9 (90%) and 25.3 (85%). Big difference huh?
