I’m curious more about the plyometric conversation. Looking at Mikes suggestion of after the strength session or more so at the end, how does this compare to the Athletes Performance model. I am a big believer in the system, however not closed to new ideas. They integrate plymoterics before speed and strength as a prep. However, is the difference between these two suggestions primarily differentiated by load and type of plyometric exercises specifically? Thanks
One question you have to ask is “What am I trying to do by including plyos (or weights, etc.)?”. Used carefully in low volume, you can use either weights or plyos as a stimulus immediately prior to sprinting (I’m talking a few minutes before each rep), relying on an anticipated short-term potentiation to actually enhance the sprint session. This could be viewed as Complex, or in some cases even Contrast, training. Care must be taken not to overload the CNS, which can lead to the opposite effect. If you plan on doing higher volumes of plyos or weights, they are best left for after the sprint session, as they can easily deplete the CNS reserves, reducing the impact of the sprint session.
